For those attending the county official plan meeting recently held at the Oakview hall in Wasaga Beach expecting to learn of the county's leadership plan to reduce private vehicle use, it was a great disappointment.
Their plan, or lack thereof, is to rely on the towns and townships, and the province, to create viable public transport. It is not seen as a major issue for the county to become involved in public transport.
Their transport plan is to take over some municipal roads to make car transport easier, especially for those who are inconvenienced by collisions on Highway 400.
They want to make sure that those Muskoka cottagers get back and forward from the GTA.
We should not be too surprised when we read that the new waste reduction program will lead to trucking 30 percent of the total county's garbage, organics, to Hamilton while burying 25 percent of it, unknown garbage, in good farmland over an even better water source.
The remaining 45 percent is made up of paper fibers and containers.
