The Collingwood Public Library has surpassed its fundraising goal.
Members of the Library's fundraising committee came to council on Monday and announced they have raised $567,595 to date in their capital fundraising campaign.
The campaign kicked off in October with a private campaign that raised about $300,000 and the public campaign started in February.
The goal was $500,000, which will help provide furniture and equipment for the new library, which is set to be completed next April and will be built at the corner of Simcoe and St. Paul Streets.
Collingwood Public Library CEO Kerri Robinson said the Bricks for Books campaign has been successful and allows people to buy a brick at the library.
The organization has also sold naming rights to a variety of rooms and sections in the library.
Collus (Collingwood Utility Services) and the Collingwood Public Utilities Corporation donated $300,000 to bring the building from a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold standard, making the library the first in Ontario to reach that level.
The library will continue its campaign and still has a number of spaces that can be sponsored including: multi-purpose room/gallery ($50,000), adult non-fiction room ($25,000), popular materials and adult fiction ($25,000), quiet study room ($20,000), secondary silver pillars of the community ($10,000) and two feature windows ($10,000 each).
Council agreed to accept the tender of M.J Dixon Construction for $7.4 million for the new library.
