Members of the Wasaga Writer’s Club will read from their unpublished works at the third-annual “Words from Wasaga”, Wed., May 7 at 7 p.m. in the community room at the Wasaga Beach Public Library.
The group consists of about 10 members from Wasaga Beach, Stayner, Collingwood and Thornbury who write in a variety of genres - historical fiction, fantasy, true crime, mystery/suspense, children’s fiction, comedy and poetry.
After the readings, coffee and goodies will be offered to accompany a brief social time.
“As a sixth-generation Beach bum, I am impressed by the talent in my hometown,” said Kim Stubbs, librarian and co-ordinator of the event.
The Writer’s Club was originally headed up in 1996 by author and artist Thelma Morrison as an instructional class for writers to hone their skills.
It has since evolved into a more traditional writer’s critiquing group with equal input from all members present.
At one time, short works of club members were showcased in a weekly “Writer's Corner” section of the Wasaga Sun.
In the past, the club also sponsored a children’s writing contest where cash prizes were offered for the winning entries.
The group meets Monday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Superstore Community Room.
New and seasoned writers are welcome to bring their poetry, short stories, memoirs or novel works-in-progress or finished pieces to share with other writer's for feedback and encouragement in a casual atmosphere.
