Sunset Point Park is a disgrace and something needs to be done, Coun. Dave Labelle says.
Labelle says swimming is not allowed at the Collingwood park because of dangers posed by rocks and hidden boulders.
However, Labelle believes, there has to be a way to clean it up.
"There word 'no' doesn't exist for me," he said. "There is a way to do it. We just haven't found out how. I can't understand how Wasaga Beach can have miles of sand beaches and we can't get an area that is safe for families to swim."
Labelle, who calls the revitalization of the park a personal priority, feels there needs to be a slope down to the water along the shore line and more irrigation of the grass at the park. During the warm summer months, the ground can get extremely hard, almost like "cement", he said.
"It looks like a poorly-kept neighbourhood," he said.
In 2007, the municipality spent more than $14,000 on maintenance and equipment upgrades at Sunset Point, with about $10,000 of that being spent on grounds.
