More than 240 musicians will take the stage in Collingwood this weekend.
The ninth-annual Collingwood Music Showcase kicked off on Thursday, and will continue on Friday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Monday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. The event is held at Moguls Bar and Grill on Simcoe St.
The showcase is being organized by Kelly Hannigan and will also serve as a fundraiser for the Collingwood Optimist Club, which provides musical instruments to elementary and high school students.
Hannigan says bands and solo musicians from Collingwood, Owen Sound, London and Barrie will be playing over the weekend.
He said the musicians range from young garage bands playing their first gig to established local favourites including Lemon Pepper Pickerel, Frankie and the Favourites and Strange Potatoes.
"We are so fortunate to be able to have all of these people coming here," he said.
Hannigan said the event started at the former Gateway Restaurant, which was located at the Blue Mountain Mall, and was designed to showcase talent from Collingwood.
"Collingwood is the hub of music, north of Toronto," he said.
The cost is $5, which will be donated to the Optimist Club and the event will include 50/50 draws and raffles for electric guitars.
