While some people will be using the time to relax after an activity-packed Christmas Day, hundreds of hockey players and parents will be doing anything but relaxing starting Dec. 26 in Midland.
Boxing Day will mark the official start of the six-day 2007 West Central Regional Silver Stick Tournament, being held at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre.
Teams from as far away as Huntsville, Port Hope, Collingwood and Lindsay will be battling for championship honours in novice, atom, bantam and midget divisions from Dec. 26-31.
Teams from the Midland Minor Hockey Association will be in the thick of the action, with local teams competing in every division.
A total of 75 games will be played during the six days of tournament action.
Simcoe County communities participating in the tournament include Collingwood, Orillia and Innisfil.
The Midland midget Centennials will kick off the action Dec. 26 at 9:30 a.m. when they battle Collingwood in Group A division action.
A total of 18 games will be played in peewee, bantam and midget action on Dec. 26 with games running until 8:50 p.m.
Action in all three divisions continues Dec. 27 with bantam and midget semifinal games taking place between 5:50 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Peewee division action continues Dec. 28 with semifinal action taking place at 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m.
Novice and atom division action gets underway Dec. 29 at 9 a.m. with the last game of the day beginning at 7 p.m.
Sandwiched in between at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. on Dec. 29, novice and atom teams will be participating in the Boston Pizza Skills Competition.
Novice and atom division games continue Dec. 30, with semifinal games taking place between 4 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. at the Midland recreation centre.
The tournament will hit a fever pitch Dec. 31, when the championship finals are held in all divisions, beginning with the novice finale at 9 a.m.
Other times for championship finals include: atom-10:30 a.m.; peewee – 12 p.m.; bantam – 1:30 p.m., and midget – 3 p.m.
