Fewer bylaw officers to respond to complaints at Wasaga this year… are you kidding me? (The law in these parts…, The Wasaga Sun, Wed., Aug. 15)
We waited four-and-a-half hours on the Civic Holiday weekend for bylaw to answer our noise complaint. Loud music vibrated throughout our residence. When exhausted bylaw officers finally arrived they explained they were overstretched and council had decided to have three less officers answering complaints this year.
Three less officers on a holiday weekend… whose idea was that?
Our municipal bylaws and the federal “tort” law of Canada guarantee citizens the right to recreate and enjoy their property. This is becoming almost impossible with the increasing noise pollution from some of our less responsible tourists. Councilors need to recognize the importance of prioritizing the bylaw service in the budget. They need sufficient officers to enforce these laws effectively.
It is unfortunate that my tax dollar must be allocated so that bylaw can supervise the less responsible tourists and bush parties numerous kids enjoy each weekend. Too bad they are not fined each time bylaw must quiet or control them. Maybe then there would be enough money for sufficient bylaw employees. Till then council… make sure we have enough officers to uphold our rights, maybe even some extras on holiday weekends.
