Simcoe County District School Board trustees approved the board's capital plan Feb. 1, and along with it a number of accommodation and attendance area reviews.

Along with a controversial Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) being struck for Barrie Central Collegiate Institute, Barrie North Collegiate Institute, Bear Creek Secondary School, Eastview Secondary School and Innisdale Secondary School, trustees also called for an ARC to look at Byng Public School, Clearview Meadows Elementary School, Duntroon Central Public School, Nottawa Central Elementary School and Nottawasaga Creemore Elementary School.

Trustees also called for an attendance area review that includes East Oro Public School and Harriett Todd Public School and an attendance area review that includes Barrie Central and Bear Creek in the Ardagh North Elementary School area.

A Ministry of Education facilitator recently criticized the SCDSB for failing to be as open as possible when ARCs are struck. Trustees have informed the public one goal of the Barrie secondary schools ARC is the closing of Barrie Central.
