At CCI's commencement ceremony on Friday, Jim Trott - a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Collingwood Royal Canadian Legion - presented the medals of father and son Walter and Harry Hunt to CCI principal Mike Abram.
The medals include Walter's British War Medal and Victory Medal from the First World War and Harry's Canadian Memorial Cross.
Harry was killed in the Second World War and in 2002 Walter donated $1.2 million to CCI in honour of Harry.
Each year, five students receive the Harry Hunt Scholarship - $2,000 a year over four years.
Recently Dave Thompson, a war medals researcher contacted the school to inform them that the war medals were up for auction.
We felt strongly that these medals belonged here at CCI so that we could proudly display them in the hall," said guidance leader Annie Chandler. "We approached the Collingwood Legion who without hesitation agreed to financially sponsor this exciting acquisition."
The Legion donated the money from the Poppy Fund. Abram said there would be a display at CCI next year.
