Collingwood Council voted to update sections one through four of its zoning bylaw on Monday.
The sections included administration, definitions, zone classifications and general provisions.
In the definitions section, the bylaw defines hundreds of items including commercial vehicles, which are defined as any vehicle over 4,500 kgs.
Under the bylaw, people are allowed to create accessory apartments in their homes but senior planner Trevor Houghton said they need to obtain a building permit before starting work.
Council has long been in favour of accessory apartments as a way to improve the affordable housing situation in the town.
Council will be discussing the bylaw next week. There will be a public open house on June 23 and council will be passing the bylaw at the end of July.
