There is no need to pave the trail

I agree with Chris Fell and several other concerned Meaford residents that paving the Georgian Trial is a bad idea!

In the dictionary, trail is defined as "A path or track made across a wild region over rough country by the passage of people or animals." As you can see, pavement is not mentioned.

I use the trail for running and power walking to avoid painful shin splints, which can be caused by running on pavement.

Also, the trail does not need to be paved for wheelchair use. I have frequently pushed a manual wheelchair on the trail with no difficulty and I have seen several people using motorized wheelchairs on the trail with no problems.

I know that grant money is available for part of the cost with remainder of the money coming from Meaford, The Town of the Blue Mountains and Collingwood. However, we are still paying for The Meaford Hall through the tax dollars and I'm sure the new Library will result in another tax increase.

In this time of recession do we need to be hit up for more money for an unnecessary project through fundraising or tax dollars?

Lets leave our beautiful Georgian Trail the way it is.
