The Collingwood municipal election night is still 18 months away, but former Councillor Rick Lloyd says he will be seeking a spot on council.
Lloyd has served on council in past years and currently serves as the president of the Collingwood Chamber of Commerce. He ran for mayor in 2006 losing to Chris Carrier.
"I have every intention of running for municipal politics again," Lloyd said. "For what position, I haven't decided yet."
Lloyd said residents have encouraged him to run again, but he will talk to his family before deciding what position to pursue.
"I've heard a lot of concern in the community," he said. "I had a number of people who didn't support me in the last election that would support me this time."
Lloyd's name his been mentioned as a possible mayoral candidate, but he's not the only one.
Councillor Mike Edwards said isn't ready to make any plans for the 2010 election.
Edwards, who received 4,817 votes in the 2006 campaign - the most of any member of council - said he has been asked by residents if he is running for mayor in 2010.
"I haven't thought of what I am going to run for," he said. "Certain people have mentioned it to me"
Edwards has chaired a meeting during this term of council but said a run for mayor isn't on his agenda at the moment.
"I don't really want to get into that election stuff," he said. "It's important to focus on what the heck we are doing now."
Edwards isn't the only member of council rumoured to challenge for the top spot in 2010.
In an interview with The Connection, Deputy Mayor Sandra Cooper said she has thought about running for mayor but hasn't made any plans for 2010.
"There is always a desire, you always strive to improve yourself," she said. "I have thought of it. It's a little too early."
Councillor Kathy Jeffery, another individual who has been discussed as a possible mayoral candidate, didn't commit.
"It's way too early to be thinking about it," she said. "We have other things that we should be focusing on."
