Editor:

It's Earth day 2009 and I was surprised to see this tidbit of information in the Georgian Trail 2009 Newsletter.

"A decision was taken by the Board of Management to

ban all e-bikes from the Trail with the Association's full

support." (http://www.georgiantrail.ca/Resources/spring%202009%20newsletter.pdf)

As a 15 year resident of the Georgian Triangle and a daily user of the Georgian Trail, I find this decision to be disappointing to say the least.

In this day and age of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle I find it alarming that alternate environmental transportation is being banned from our local trail that joins our communities.

I am sure that a lot of people could and would use the trail as a form of transit-way to get to and from work.

I am a resident of Meaford and have worked in Thornbury.  I would love to be able to have the option to use an ebike to get from Meaford to Thornbury knowing I am helping our planet by using a very LOW emission emission vehicle.

Incentive programs could be implemented to encourage this positive behavior and help our suffering planet.

Hours could be posted to restrict use to commuter traffic (ie: 8:00 a.m-10:00a.m. and 4:00p.m-6p.m) and warn other users.

We have a beautiful trail system that could be used more efficiently.

I truly believe that the people who passed this law should re-think their decision and collectivity make our planet a better place.

Jeff Allen,

Meaford, Ontario
