It is so frustrating at times to be so close to Georgian Bay and not be able to get your sea kayak into the water. I've found many sites between Meaford and Wasaga Beach where you can get into the Bay.
All of the town harbours have launch ramps and it is easy to find a place to park that feels secure and just get going. I have never been asked to pay a launch fee.
Christie Beach and Northwinds Beach in the Town of the Blue Mountains are public access areas where you can launch from the sandy beaches. Christie Beach is good for beginners because of the numerous boulder and rock breakwaters that stop any kind of wave action.
Northwinds Beach can get really busy on a summer weekend so an alternative is just north on the highway where you can drive down onto the shale flats adjacent to the Craigleith Provincial Park.
This part of the Bay can develop high waves if the wind is from the north or north - west. So watch your weather forecasts.
Wasaga Beach has many access points - but due to severe weekend crowds it is better to launch in Collingwood and paddle along the beach. Or even lauch at the SchoonerTown Parkette on the Nottawasaga and paddle downstream to enter the Bay.
If you are looking to get into sea kayaking there are two local options. Free Spirit Tours has a sea kayaking outlet at Northwinds Beach in the Blue Mountains with rentals and lessons. You can also access the beautiful waters of the Bruce Peninsula with the help of SunTrail Outfitters in Hepworth (north of Owen Sound).
They run classes and rent sea kayaks and do short tours.

Now with the new guidebook by Kas Stone and two places to rent and learn there is no reason why you can't get started this year in sea kayaking.
