Matthew, 10, and Christopher, 8, Rayner of Innisfil take a look in the cockpit of a plane at the Gathering of Classics airshow at the Edenvale Aerodrome last year.

MORE THAN 200 classic aircraft and 90 vintage automobiles will take part in the 19th annual Gathering of the Classics at the Edenvale Aerodrome on Sat., Aug. 2.

Located in Clearview Township, the privately owned aerodrome, once a Second World War training centre for pilots, is just east of Sunnidale Corners on the south side of Highway 26.

The Gathering of the Classics was founded, and has been hosted each year since, by The Collingwood Classic Aircraft Foundation, a group of area aircraft enthusiasts.

Classic aircraft, the organization notes, are planes built between the mid-1930s and the late 1960s.

Visitors to the aerodrome during the gathering will have a chance to see the various planes and cars up close and meet the owners.

There will also be related static displays that people can check out.

As well, flights in a deHavilland Tiger Moth, Harvard or ultra light Sportstar will be available, weather permitting.

Admission for the day is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family of four.

The foundation, which collects, repairs and flies classic aircraft, currently has six planes: a deHavilland Tiger Moth 82A, a Fleet Canuck, a Aeronca Champ, a Stinson 105, a Corben Baby Ace and a Smith Miniplane.

The Fleet Canuck is a Canadian designed and built aircraft, created for training, personal use and commercial use.

Designed in 1944, the plane was built by Fleet Aircraft of Canada between 1945 and 1958. A total of 225 planes in total were constructed.

The foundation says its Canuck, serial number 48, was built in 1946 in Fort Erie.

Logbooks for the plane, dating back to 1965, note various owners operated it in northern Quebec.

The Smith Miniplane is a home-built aircraft, constructed between 1959 and 1969.

The plane was donated to the foundation on the condition that it not fly and as such it's now a static display.
