Collingwood's newest industry is set to start production this November.

John Barber, president of Barber Glass - a Guelph-based glass manufacturer - is occupying a portion of the former Alcoa plant.

The company announced in December that it would be locating in Collingwood.

Barber said the company is several months behind schedule because it took longer than expected to remove equipment and clean the plant. He said they didn't take possession until the end of April.

"Start of production is slated for November," he said. "We want to get it going as quickly as possible."

He said the company will be holding a job fair in the next six weeks and plan to hire 35 people, depending on the outlook of the economy.

"If it keeps going the way it's going, it's going to get slimmer," he said. "We are looking for people who are willing to learn."

Barber said the company, which specializes in architectural glass, said about 40 per cent of its business comes from the United States. He said the state of the American economy will have an impact on their business.

"It impacts us as it does anyone in Canada," he said.
