One of Canada's top classical musicians will be performing in Collingwood this weekend for a good cause.
Anton Kuerti, an internationally renowned pianist, will be appearing as part of the Collingwood Music Festival at New Life Brethren Christ Church, Saturday, at 7:30 p.m.
The Vienna-born Kuerti, who has received the Governor General's lifetime music achievement award this year, will be performing an all-Beethoven concert including Appassionata Sonata, Opus 57 and the "Diabelli" Variations, Opus 120.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the music festival and Oxfam.
Oxfam, is an organization whose mission is to find solutions to global poverty and justice.
"We work with allies in Canada and around the world to change the policies and practices that perpetuate human suffering," says the organization's website.
"We support organizations in poor communities overseas in their struggle to secure basic rights. Oxfam's advocacy and campaigns for just policies are rooted in the knowledge and experience gained in that struggle,"
Douglas Nadler, music director of the festival, said with the recent food shortage, he feels this is an appropriate time to raise money for Oxfam.
The organization provides service in Africa, south Asia, the Americas and Canada.
