Three teams remain undefeated in the North Dufferin Baseball League (NDBL) season but the upper echelon teams have not been tested yet.
New Lowell Knights, Creemore Braves, and the Bolton Brewers are the teams undefeated in the early going. Expect that to change as the season progresses later into the schedule when the top teams play one another.
Perhaps the only tough games Creemore has played have been against the Clearview Orioles and the Ivy Leafs. New Lowell is 7-0, Creemore 6-0 and Bolton 4-0.
Creemore played in the annual Tillsonburg tournament as they usually do this time of year. The Braves played three games losing the first one to Whitby 2-0, beating Glanbrook 13-9, and losing the final game 7-0 in Woodslee.
The NDBL teams also made it known last week which level they will compete at for the chance to win a provincial baseball championship. Hoping to will it all at the 'B' category is Clearview, Ivy, New Lowell and Orillia.
Going for a 'C' championship are Aurora, Barrie 'A', and Creemore. Angus, Barrie 'B' Bolton, Lisle and Midland will compete against one another at the OBA 'D' side. Hosting the qualifiers are Midland, Creemore and New Lowell. The winner will advance to the provincial championship tournaments on the Labour Day weekend.
This week Clearview plays Mansfield at New Lowell Wednesday then visits Aurora Friday. New Lowell is in Angus Thursday, visit Ivy Friday and play Barrie 'B' next Monday there. Creemore is home to the Barrie Juniors Saturday afternoon and then go to Angus Sunday.
Clearview Township professional hockey player Steve Walker clarified some information about his terrific hockey season with the East Germany Polar Bears of the German Hockey League. He only missed the last regular season game but did miss the first five playoff games.
Sorry about the mistake Steve, but what a season you did have. A championship, playoff MVP and runner-up for the scoring championship.
