The Highlands Trailblazers Nordic Ski Team, a Duntroon-based organization, is challenging itself to be the first team ever to run the whole Bruce Trail in just one week, relay style.

The effort will begin on Tues., June 24 in Tobermory and from sun up to sun down the team of high-level Nordic ski racers will always have a runner on the trail.

Officials say that each runner with team - which is based at the Highlands Nordic Ski Centre on Nottawasaga Concession 10 - will run one or two trail sections per day, with sections ranging from six to 16 kilometres.

The plan is to finish the run in Niagara on Canada Day, by then having run 840 kilometres.

Since Collingwood is located between Tobermory and Niagara, the team says it will be shuttled back to sleep there every night. As the team gets further south it may spend a night or two in Guelph.

Team members are collecting pledges with some of the money going towards The Bruce Trail Conservancy. The team is also asking local businesses to provide sponsorship money.
