A Collingwood man has been charged with dangerous driving, impaired operation of a vehicle and racing, along with having open booze in his vehicle and driving with a blood alcohol level while holding a Class G2 license.
And, because of the driver's actions, police say a Huronia West OPP cruiser has been damaged, a police officer injured and a passenger in the man's vehicle has been hurt as well.
Const. Mark Kinney says that around 2:50 a.m. officers on routine patrol witnessed a brown, 1995 Toyota Camry that was westbound on Hwy. 26, east of Stayner.
Kinney says police observed the vehicle traveling at 159-kmh in a posted 80-kmh zone.
As the car entered Stayner, Kinney says it was traveling at 125-kmh in an 80-kmh zone.
"When police attempted to stop this vehicle it slowed, pulled to the paved shoulder and continued to travel westbound.
"Police pulled along side this vehicle to encourage the operator to stop, however, instead the Toyota slammed into the side of the cruiser and then struck a hydro pole," Kinney explained, saying this caused a police officer and a passenger in the Toyota to receive minor injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, Kristopher Dasilva, 19, of Collingwood, was subsequently arrested.
