Collingwood resident Drew Wright is one step closer to being the Canadian Idol.
On Tuesday night's episode, Wright advanced to the top 24 and will perform on Monday at 9 p.m., as part of the first group of 12 singers.
Singers will perform each week and based on the votes from the audience, competitors will be eliminated and 14 competitors will be eliminated in three weeks.
The Collingwood BIA is looking to create a groundswell of support for the singer.
Jeffery Shearer, chair of the BIA said they are urging all of their members to support the Collingwood resident.
"He lives here, he works here, he's a talented guy and he deserves our support," Shearer said.
Shearer said not only will it help Wright succeed in the music world but it will also increase Collingwood's profile across the country.
"It puts us on the map even more," he said.
Wright, a graduate of Collingwood Collegiate Institute, is a regular on the Collingwood music scene having performed in numerous bands and groups since high school.
He still does regular gigs in the area including at Windy O'Neils at the Village at Blue Mountain, Kaytoo in the Village and Duncan's Café on Hurontario St.
Wright said his next appearance on the show is slated to air on June 23-24.
