Laughter will be on tap for Theatre Collingwood's summer season.

The local theatre company announced its 2008 summer lineup with a press conference at Blue Mountain Resort on Wednesday.

The lineup, dubbed "seriously side-splitting", features four performances - including three written by Canadian playwrights.

The first performance runs from Wed., July.2 to Sat., July. 12 and is called Hen & Chicken's Vaudeville and was written by Theatre Collingwood artistic director Steven Thomas.

Thomas said the show is the organization's contribution to Collingwood's sesquicentennial and serves as a tribute to Sanford and Charles Lindsay, who promoted theatre in Collingwood for several decades.

"They were fundamentally responsible for bringing live entertainment to Collingwood, during that time period," Thomas said. "We're thrilled to be a part of it (sesquicentennial) and to show people what it was like for our great grandparents."

The second performance is the fifth in a series by Clearview Township playwright Dan Needles and is called Wingfield on Ice, a series of plays that document the life of Walt and Maggie Winfield in Persephone Township. The show runs from Tues., July. 15- Sat., Aug. 2.

The third show is called Lend me a Tenor by American writer Ken Ludwig and looks at the backstage tales of the Cleveland Opera Company. The play runs from Wed., Aug.13-Sat., Aug. 23.

The final show is by famed Canadian playwright Norm Foster and is called The Long Weekend, which looks at four longtime friends who go away on vacation together. The show runs from Wed., Sept. 17 -Sat., Sept. 27.
