Denis Van Decker and Anne Finn were in Collingwood on Tuesday as part of the Fathers 4 Justice crusade for equal parenting.

Representatives from the group Fathers 4Justice were in downtown Collingwood on Tuesday, dressed as Batman and Batwoman.

The group was looking to drum up support for a private members motion - M-483 - that was tabled by Saskatchewan MP and is designed to enshrine "the principle of Equal Parenting After Divorce."

Denis Van Decker of the York Region chapter of the organization said the goal is to do away with the "adversarial law system," in Canada. Van Decker, who has gone through a divorce himself, is in favour of equal parenting and mandatory mediation when children are involved in the divorce.

He says under the current system, the two parties in a divorce are pitted against one another in a confrontation. He feels there is a better way.

"If there are kids involved, you fight for your kids," he said. "Lawyers drive the hostility. We want equal parenting"

The group handed out cards and other information to people in downtown Collingwood and moved on to six other cities in Ontario.
